It’s a question we’ve been asking ourselves, especially since working with Grace Academy to produce a series of videos. We worked with Grace Academy to produce four videos sharing student insight into school life and showcasing the three Academies.
Video is booming with no signs of its popularity slowing down. While bringing a school’s website to life, social video snippets can also be used to boost engagement with ease on an ongoing basis.
Historically shrouded in myth and preconceptions that video is either too costly, too risky from a reputational perspective or could even impact website performance, it has now emerged to be seen as a valuable component in the school marketing mix.
Having a visual identity is a definite brand asset. With many more students taking an active role in choosing the school they want to go to, reaching them with peer driven content through the screens they are looking at is key. The days of long, staged, educator-led videos are gone. These days, videos engage their audiences by being short, sweet and student-led.
So, what’s next? Social messaging is the latest transformational shift that’s happening in the social media space. With people using the likes of WhatsApp and Messenger more frequently than any of the top four social platforms, social messaging allows teachers to keep those at home up to date on what goes on in the classroom.
It’s all about achieving the right balance – using social messaging and other forms of electronic communication while keeping focused on the value of good, old fashioned, face to face conversation.
