Twitter Spaces – what is it and why would we use it?

What is Twitter Spaces?

This is Twitter’s answer to Clubhouse. For those that have not heard of Clubhouse, it is a platform for audio chatrooms, where speakers hold discussions as virtual events.

Twitter is describing Spaces as a “place to come together, built around the voices of the people using Twitter, your Twitter community”.

This will allow users to gather with another person or a group of users for live discussions.

You will see them appear when they are happening but once it’s ended, they will no longer be available publicly on Twitter.

Twitter will retain the copies of Spaces for 30 days to review for any violations of the Twitter Rules. The hosts will be able to download a copy of their Space data as long as Twitter has a copy of it. The speakers can also download a copy of the transcription of the discussions.

Why would we use it?

To hold virtual discussions for any hot topics or Q&A’s that is trending in your industry.

These panel discussions are a great way for brands to build on brand leadership.

It positions you as a thought leader as you keep track of the industry, it strengthens your reputation and positively impacts the request for proposals, invitations, pricing and post-sale cross-selling.

It allows you to invite potential prospects to join your panel and creates the opportunity to network with them, demonstrate your expertise and nurture relationships with your prospects and other guests.

The host has complete control on anyone that joins the session and who can speak as well as the ability to remove anyone that is not following the rules. It’s a great way to have discussions free from abuse and trolls that may occur at events.

Who will Twitter Spaces be for?

Twitter Spaces will be available on both Android and iOS users. It will be great for thought leaders and any brands that are looking to host their own thought-leader discussion panels as they will have a wider audience as opposed to those limited to Clubhouse on iOS.

Where can we use it?

Twitter Spaces will be available to use on the Twitter App above the Home timeline, where Fleets also currently appear.

When will this be released?

There isn’t a launch date just yet, but you can stay up to date on their Twitter Space account
